I launched this website to help physicians move from training into practice with clarity and intention. Too many careers begin in survival mode, leading to preventable burnout and quiet dissatisfaction. This space exists to offer structure, perspective, and practical strategies—so you can build a career that is sustainable, fulfilling, and aligned with who you are, not just what you were trained to do.

A Mentorship Program

Transitioning from a trainee to a faculty member is one of the most challenging and transformative steps in a medical professional’s career.

Whether you're preparing to step into your new role as faculty in July/August or you’ve recently begun your journey as an attending, the GYOEDU Launchpad is designed to guide you through this critical phase, equipping you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to thrive and build a strong foundation for your career.

This course is inspired by the lessons I wish I had when I made this leap. The early years of a faculty career come with steep learning curves, from understanding workplace dynamics to navigating negotiations and financial planning. Over the past decade, I’ve gained insights from my experience as an attending physician and from completing an MBA at the Ross School of Business. This combination uniquely positions me to share not only the practical aspects of the transition but also a deeper understanding of the business of medicine—a dimension often overlooked in medical training.

Starting strong matters. Your impression in those first months sets the tone for your career, influencing your perception and confidence in your role. A shaky start can make things harder unnecessarily, while a confident, intentional beginning can open doors and establish credibility.

Here’s what we’ll cover in the GYOEDU Launchpad:

  1. Navigating Negotiations and Closing Information Gaps
One of the challenges of transitioning to faculty is the information asymmetry—understanding fair-market value for your salary and negotiating for time, resources, and support. Drawing from my experiences and frameworks, we’ll address these gaps and empower you to advocate for yourself confidently.
  2. Financial Planning for Long-Term Stability
A jump in income often leads to financial missteps, such as overspending on housing or lifestyle upgrades. We’ll discuss strategies to make sound financial decisions, maximize your savings, and leverage compounding to build a stable financial future.
  3. Professional Conduct and Operating Room Dynamics
Whether it’s deciding how much autonomy to give residents and fellows or establishing yourself as a leader in the OR, we’ll explore practical approaches to handling these critical responsibilities effectively.
  4. Leadership, Communication, and Defining Your Purpose
Leadership and communication skills are pivotal in building a successful career, yet they’re rarely emphasized in medical training. We’ll focus on defining your purpose and values to ensure you’re steering your career in the direction you want—not simply reacting to external demands.
  5. Understanding the Business of Medicine
With my MBA experience, I’ll offer insights into the financial and operational aspects of the medical field, helping you understand the “business” side of your profession. From contract terms to productivity metrics, we’ll demystify these concepts and empower you in discussions with leadership.
  6. Building Systems for Long-Term Success
Whether it’s managing your inbox, time, or commitments, establishing systems early in your career can help prevent overwhelm and keep you organized. We’ll discuss practical strategies for building sustainable habits supporting productivity and growth.

This course is about starting intentionally and with purpose. I hope the lessons shared here will help you confidently navigate your first two to three years as a faculty member, ensuring you’re surviving and thriving in this next career phase.
